Chalkboard Paint ~ finally got to play with it!

I tackled my first project with spray painting furniture and using chalkboard paint. I picked a piece of furniture I knew the kids were outgrowing just in case I messed up! Here is what it looked like before:

It was pretty beat up. Lots of glue, markers and chunks on the top. I have gotten my moneys worth out of the table! I only gave the top a light sanding and then sprayed a white primer over the whole set. I then sprayed white over the whole thing and I choose a gloss finish. I could not believe how easy it was and how nice the paint covered! Here is what it look liked after the primer and 2 coats of white:

I did the top of the table only in the primer as I knew I was going to paint it with chalkboard paint. After the white paint dried I applied a polycrylic to the chairs and then painted the top of the table with chalkboard paint. I did two coats of chalkboard paint and then applied the polycrylic to the legs of the table. Here is how it came out:

I was pretty happy with the outcome and will tackle another spray painting project soon! It was a little time consuming as you have to wait for the coats to dry but overall the time was worth it. Because this was my first paint project the cost was a little up there. I had to buy the primer cans, white cans, chalkboard paint (I choose to buy a small can to roll on instead of spray paint to avoid over spray on the legs), polycrylic, and accessories (sponge brushes and smaller roller). But the next project will only cost me the cost of the spray paint as I now have left over supplies. Here is the before and after pictures side by side:

  2. Hi Laura! Stopping by from Classy Clutter to see your cute table...and well...love your name too! :) That table will be perfect for your little boys - I have two boys as well but mine are now 15 & 18 - so no more little tables for me, but I would have loved this back in the day! And love your idea for Lego instructions...I am a bit of a "binder junky" myself - must be the Virgo in me! Stop by Elegant Nest and visit sometime!
Have a great day ~ Laura
